The Simpsons: 30 for 30 - Part Three

Like almost everyone else I stopped watching The Simpsons at least 15 years ago, but the show has still had a great influence on me and the stuff I say.

Nearly three years ago I drafted a list of my 30 favourite episodes.

About two and a half years later I finally finished PART ONE.

After a further six months, I've realised I'm never going to properly complete parts two and three. I blame COVID-19. Even for the four months of procrastination from November to March.

So instead I'm providing a very brief synopsis of each episode. Images are generated from the outstanding website frinkiac.com.

Here is PART TWO.

And once in a great while, we are privileged to experience an event so extraordinary, it becomes part of our shared heritage. 1969: Man walks on the moon. 1971: Man walks on the moon... again. Then, for a long time, nothing happened. Until now.

Presenting Part Three....

10. Lisa on Ice (Season 6, Episode 8)
An episode that accurately portrays the bond siblings share, as well as adults ruining youth sports.

9. 22 Short Films About Springfield (Season 7, Episode 21)
A series of loosely tied together vignettes about minor characters, long before The Simpsons had to dedicate entire episodes to them because the had run out of good ideas. One of them
is the funniest (and most memed) few minutes in the history of The Simpsons.

8. Cape Feare (Season 5, Episode 2)
Sideshow Bob terrorises The Thompsons.

7. Homer at the Bat (Season 3, Episode 17)
You don't need to know who any of the Major League Baseketball guest stars are to appreciate this episode.

6. Homer the Heretic (Season 4, Episode 3)
Homer decides he's done with religion, but ultimately learns a valuable lesson about people and faith. An episode that manages to make fun of everyone without offending anyone.

5. Last Exit to Springfield (Season 4, Episode 17)
Lisa needs braces. Homer needs a dental plan. It's a match made in comedic heaven.

4. Marge vs the Monorail (Season 4, Episode 12)
Snake oil salesman Lyle Lanley convinces the townspeople to spend their funds on a monorail. To be fair, a monorail did put Sydney on the map!

3. Lemon of Troy (Season 6, Episode 24)
The kids of Springfield get one over the kids from neighbouring Shelbyville. Underneath the jokes and silliness is a lot of relatable truth about childhood friendship, rivalries and inexplicable civic pride.

2. You Only Move Twice (Season 8, Episode 2)
Homer is headhunted by a power plant in the town Cypress Creek, but when his family is miserable there, he chooses his family over his career. Also, his boss Hank Scorpio is a James Bond-esque super-villain. Or an early prototype for Elon Musk.

1. Homer Badman (Season 6, Episode 9)
This episode starts innocently enough, with a mundane candy convention heist of the priceless Gummy de Milo. Then it evolves into a hilarious takedown of the tabloid media cycle - even more cutting today than it was in 1995.
Is this still funny?
