Report Cards
In the last week of the school term, we received report cards for R and J.
This surprised us.
It seemed strange not to provide input into the written assessment of their academic performance. We were their main teachers for about 40% of the year to date.
I know at work, if I have to do a performance review for a new team member, I will seek feedback from their previous supervisor.
So here are my comments nobody asked for...
ENGLISH
R: An excellent reader. He completed all the levels of the Reading Eggs application before Term 1 ended. This was followed by a gigantic tantrum when it was suggested he read an actual book instead.
J: An improving reader and speller, when he remembers to do his reading and spelling he was asked to do seconds earlier.
MATHEMATICS
R: Good but never ask him to continue a number line on the next line, even if he has run out of space because he's written it too large. It's a number line, not number lines!
J: Amazing numeracy skills for this age. Does often ignore instructions about which online maths game to play. He also regularly gets frustrated by the mouse being broken. It's not broken - it's usually held upside-down or clicked outside the window.
STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art (Design), Mathematics)
R: Made an Eiffel Tower using nothing but aluminium foil. He was asked to reflect upon the experience. For what could have been done better, he said everything. And for what would you do different the next time, he said I would never do it again!
J: Also made an Eiffel Tower using nothing but aluminium foil. It wouldn't stand upright because he didn't listen to the instructions about not using other materials and thought you could tape it together.
HEALTH and PE
R: One PE lesson ended early when the student was informed an obstacle course using furniture for ball-throwing target practice was not a good idea.
J: Repeatedly ignored requests to participate in a YouTube yoga session.
OVERALL
R: A good listener.
J: A calm child.
